A Mini Tunnel

My brother wanted me to make a tunnel for his remote control car so I created this miniature tunnel.

It is very similar to my KAPLA tunnel which I managed to fit through.
Its the same technique and design.

A Church

Quickly, I felt like making a model. I couldn't think of any, but then I decided to make a Church. Here it is:

It has a simple pattern and a tower like most churches.

A Yurt

Recently I went away for the bank holiday with family and friends. We went and stayed at the CAALM Camp Yurts. Yurts are huge tents which have a wood burner inside and beds as well. Here is a picture of them:

And on the outside, they look like this:

So then I thought I could make one of these out of KAPLA, and here it is:

The roof was hard as it was curved so it ended up looking like this and I used a pattern for the outside curve.

Tall Blocked Platforms

I have been away for a few weeks because of Easter therefore I have not been able to make any buildings. Today though, I have created a tall building with lots of blocks. Here it is...

It is very tall and strong, I used the same technique as I used in the Tunnel I made.
Personally I think it's Ok., not the best.

A Barmy Block Hotel

I have made another hotel, as I think those sort of building look nice. Its built up in blocks which are positioned differently to the original base.

I think it looks quite cool with the different Blocks placed in different positions.

Here is a short comedy video about  it.

Videos

Here is some videos I have made using Kapla:

My Pirate Ship

I decided to veer away from buildings for a change and make something different to just buildings. I have made a pirate ship.

This was inspired by the book, the blue one, which I got recently. I used the bottom but the rest was my own design, personally I think it is quite good.

Internet Inspired

I was looking on the internet for some inspiration on what to build. I noticed that different people had been using different bases to start off their building. So I decided to come up with my own.

I also added some floors to it using a stacking style. Every floor I twisted 90 degrees. I also chose a new roof style which I thought was quite effective.

A Tunnel Made of KAPLA

I have recently made a huge creation. It used all my bricks and it took me about three days to perfect it. Here it is.

As you can see it is a tunnel with a covered roof. The roof fell down 4 times before it stayed there after a lot of trial and error. It was also really high. So high, I could fit in it...

My Version of the Arc de Triomphe

I decided to make something along the lines of the Arc de Triomphe. I added a different type of roof and patterns up each pillar. Obviously I had no carved sculptures in it because that would just ruin it.

I also added a bit of an entrance fence to make it look cool. Personally, I think it is very good and I quite like it.

How Strong is KAPLA?

I was wondering about KAPLA and how it has an amazing architectural ability and a ability to wow you but there was one question I couldn't answer. How strong is KAPLA? So I created a little podium about 20 cm off the ground.

And then I stepped on top of it...

I was amazed and it has given me some ideas for the future...

What Do You Think It Is?

I have made a nice looking building with quite a bit of skill on my side. It looks very nice and it took me a long time.

It has a new style for the base and the part above it is like one of the pillars I had on my first bridge. The above I have used to represent glass building and windows.

A Tall Tower

With my friend we decided to make a tower, we basically piled the bricks on top of each other in some form of a pattern and created a tower about 1.5m high. Take a look.

It's not very stylish or designed well, we just put it together in half an hour.

MY Ramp

Its been a while since my last post, but this one took time and I've been busy. I have made a ramp for my remote control car. My camera broke so I couldn't film it but here are some photos from my phone.

I think it is quite good the way  the side looks is also quite cool. My car can easily drive up and down it and I Created a platform for it to turn around on at the top.

My New and Upgraded KAPLA Hotel

With this building I was planning to make a huge Skyscraper but the planning went a bit wrong and I ended up making this...

My new upgraded Hotel. Now it has a proper tower on the right hand side. Also part of the Building is sticking out which in real life would bring extra space. It would fit right into a Las Vegas street if it had all the colours which I cant use.

Now here are the scores...

My Best Building So Far

Hello there and welcome to my latest post. I have worked very hard on this post and took me over three hours. I decided to make a levitated mansion/house/town hall which requires skill. It has a base which on top I have designed my own pillars for the house to rest on, on the top I have made a clock tower without a clock.

Personally, I think this is my best building so far. It required a good design, skill and creativeness. So here are the scores.

Me Inside a KAPLA Swirl

With inspiration from the Internet, I have created a circular structure, which I am inside! Standing approximately 1.5m tall, I give you, Me Inside a KAPLA Swirl...

It was massive and only took me an hour to make. Not much skill was involved apart from the fact I had to try not to touch the bricks or it would of all fell down.

My Kapla Hotel

This is inspired from one of the first pictures I posted on this blog which I found on the internet. I'm going to call it Brick Hotel. Have a look:

I used the same theme as that photo but I created my own towers on each side, I think this is one of my Best Creations.

My Kapla Sculpture

This time I have made a tower, it could be a sculpture, it could be a building. I am pleased with the bottom half, but I think the structure on top of it ruined it a bit, have a look for yourself...

As you can see not the best model ever, it is more of a sculpture so, without further ado, here are the ratings...

My Bridge

Hi there, this is my first post of an actual model. So here is a bridge I made.

It is a grand Bridge and it was very large and at each end I made towers to make it look bigger and better. For the towers I used lots of different patterns to construct them with. The bridge itself is suspended in the air because of the structure it has and the way the bricks are put together.

Here is a picture of what it looked like without the towers:

For every creation I make I'm going to rate it on different aspects. The aspects will probably change or get new ones added in. So...:

Creativeness: 8/10
Skill: 7/10
Design: 7/10

If you have any other ideas for aspects to mark  it on, let me know in the comment section.

KAPLA

Kapla is a type of construction toy which was created by Tom van der Bruggen in 1988. They are identical planks of wood measuring 12 centimetres in length. They are used to make all sorts of creations animals, buildings, vehicles and sculptures. As you can see they can create amazing models out of just planks. Personally, I think they are amazing and really creative.

I first found out about KAPLA when my Mum took me on a day out to Cardiff. We went to the Doctor Who experience and Techniquest, which is a massive interactive Science museum. In Techniquest there is a room full of Kapla and we saw some posters around and saw what they were and what you could make out of them. We were there for the remaining 45 minutes until it closed playing and making models. On the left is the first KAPLA model I made. Its not spectacular, but its what I made first and I'm quite proud.

Then this Christmas my Mum got us a huge box of KAPLA which contained 1000 bricks, so far I have made two big models and in this blog I will post all my creations, weird wonderful and some may just be stupid.

If you would like to find out more bout KAPLA visit: http://www.kapla.com/kapla/accueil.en.htm
